Following on from initial concept studies and design specifications prepared for London Underground (LUL), TDI worked in conjunction with GEC Alstom Metro Cammell to develop the new Jubilee Line rolling stock.
During pre-production, TDI manufactured a full size, half car length mock-up and undertook full audits on all industrial design and ergonomic related issues within the saloon and cab interiors. TDI also developed and prototyped a bespoke train-to-track detrainment system which is fitted to the front of the train in place of the 'M' door.
Alstom provided 59 six-car trains with bodyshells manufactured from lightweight extruded aluminium sections. The trains are driven by ac motors, delivering a maximum speed of 100km/h (60mph) and are equipped for automatic train control (ATC) operation. |
