The Sub-bug was developed as a personal marine leisure vehicle designed specifically for the underwater tourist. The vehicles were manufactured to order, in-house, by TDI during the early 1990s including 6 units specially built for the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies.
The Sub-bug is unique in that it contains an on-board scuba facility which enables the user to dive without the need to wear any equipment other than the basic mask and fins required for snorkelling.
Douglas Adams, renowed author of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, test drove one of the first production Sub-bugs on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. You can read his hilarious exploits (first published in Esquire magazine in 1993) by following the URL link above.
