whispering windows

Imagine a situation, where the windows (or the walls) are the actual messaging system. Every passenger can hear clearly at a volume that is neither deafening nor inaudible. The sound has a clarity previously unavailable with conventional public address systems. This is Whispering Windows as installed on the Minitram.

Whispering Windows utilises patented technology involving ‘smart’ magnetostrictive materials. Incorporated into special actuators (eg mounted in the corner of the vehicle windows above), these unique materials expand or contract with the application or removal of a magnetic field. This physical change can be managed to produce precisely controlled movement in large rigid surfaces to create sound, or to cancel noise and mechanical vibration.

Weatherproof, vandal proof and maintenance free, the actuators can be concealed on the rear of surfaces, with no holes necessary to transmit the sound. They can even be placed remotely on a surface to give listeners the feeling that the sound is coming from right next to them.
