Minitram Systems is the technical partner behind the new "Zeroed" range of urban electric delivery vehicles launched at the Commercial Vehicles Show in 2008.
Based around modified Isuzu chassis, the 5.5-7.5 tonne refridgerated vans are powered by an electronically-controlled, 3 phase electric drive train with simple two-pedal operation. Energy is supplied from two strings of lithium ion phosphate batteries mounted in cassettes under the body. These are charged overnight for around six hours providing up to 100 miles of range and a top speed of 55 mph. Regenerative braking helps to preserve battery power and this is linked to an antilock braking system for added safety.
The first test vehicles, supplied to Asda and Ocado, were demonstrated to great effect at the annual Capital Fuel Challenge Arrive 'N' Drive event sponsored by Transport for London. Setting off from Horse Guards parade, the Ocado vehicle covered the 24 mile course around London's street to come in third place, minutes ahead of the high performance Tesla sports car driven by Damon Hill! |
